10+ data portals into one.
For this project, our team of designers improved oil and gas company’s employee efficiency, by combining 10+ data portals into 1.
My tasks consisted of research, creating an information architecture for this portal, as well as wireframes for several sections.
Client: Oil and gas company
Team: Project manager, Me(Senior UX), Junior UX, Junior UX, Senior UI, Junior UI.
This project also received Red Dot Awards 2024.
Imagine that every day, your talents have to open ten portals to chase or find the data they need to do their jobs. Every. Day. That was reality in this company. Employees’ lives were hectic, having to remember where to look for what they need, and not only that, but also having to remember their log-in details to each one of these.
01. The problem area.
02. Data Synthesis
Following a design thinking process throughout the project, the first step was to uncover all the existing data, as well as familiarising ourselves with the existing portals.
The first step was to collect all necessary information from each individual portal and get a thorough understanding of each.
This process required a long investigation to really understand the functionality of each portal, as well as the technical constraints that came with it. Each data portal came with different functionalities – one was for reports, another one for scorecards or data quality.
PowerBI experts were involved, as well as technical IT specialists, who had a great depth of knowledge about these data portals. I also got necessary training in PowerBI.
03.Information architecture.
As the Senior UX Designer, I built a successful information architecture for this portal.
Especially, in such complex data-rich solutions, information architecture truly is the strong backbone, therefore a large portion of the time in the project was dedicated spent building a strong and optimal information architecture.
It was important to decide which information needed be prioritised and the most effective way to how it should be displayed to bring the most value to the users. Not only that, but also how to navigate the portal and what to see on the home page.
It was achieved, by implementing user- friendly navigation and AI- powered search functionality on the portal.
04.Sketching&Wireframing
Throughout the design process, a wide variety of different fidelity sketches, and wireframes were delivered by me.
05.The final result.
I, as a Senior UX designer, worked side by side with the Senior UI designer to create stunning visuals coupled with usability and structure. UX and UI went hand in hand throughout the entire project process to deliver the best product that brings the most value to the user.
I was particularly focused on designing crucial sections of home page, search results, as well as scorecard, for both mobile and desktop.
06. After
The newly integrated data portal holds the capability and potential to simplify and enhance the day-to-day lives of the company employees.
Increased efficiency not only can fosters happiness among employees but also empowers them to deliver their best work for the company.
The project also won Red Dot Design Awards in 2024, for an outstanding design.

During the project, I mentored more junior team members, as well as closely worked with the UI team - side by side, that resulted in a great collaboration, and we could deliver the best portal for our client’s needs.
